GroundHog Day

It's groundhog Day here at Brushwattlebird central - our pair are nesting again! Last weekend theyw ere empty nesters feeding the babies (then baby- one disappeared) out of the nest. Today I look in the nest again and we have two warm brown eggs being lovingly tended by the parents!

Time Flies...

The babies are already nearly grown... I guess they'll be fledging in a couple of days. I had trouble posting the photos from last weekend - finally got them on today...and here's the latest image.

Bringing Up Babies

Well both the Brush Wattlebirds eggs hatched last weekend and ever since it's been 'game on' for Mum & Dad. No time to spare... delivering food and retrieving faecal sacs! Tops marks for nest site selection though - it's been blowing a gale here all week with moments of driving rain - no problem though for these canny birds - the babies are all snug under the roof of our verandah as well as out of the reach of destructive winds!

Hatching Honeyeaters

One Brush wattle bird hatched, one to go! Sorry not brilliant photos.

Blue-tongue-kissing!

This morning I was lucky to find a pair of Blue-tongued lizards in our garden in an amorous embrace.
The larger stumpy-tailed one (under) is the female who has lived around our house for many years. Her paramour was noticably smaller than her (most of her tail is missing), who gently had hold of her neck in his jaw then swung his tail around and completed their union. The whole time he was caressing her body gently with his right front foot, and after they had finished they lay quietly next to one another in the sun. Ain't love grand!
